Book: Modified Journal, 'Osteon'

Description

Thoughts: This journal is complete; it's roughly 200 pages, on stone-paper. I let the design of the cover be; thought only obscures. This speaks for the moment. The vague, abstracted figure of Gaster is reflected in inky fragments... An anchor in time and gravity to thought.

The spine reads 'Osteon' - a unit of bone tissue that varies in it's span of life, and is important to bioarchaeology and forensics. The 'eon' segment also refers to a span of time.

The front reads 'Nadir set.' Nadir being the sun's lowest point around the world (in one's perspective, the depth of night). 'Set' referring to mathematics or fractals... But also setting, either in place in eternal rest, or such as in the setting of the sun - a paradox, given nadir-state. In it's essence, something quite true to the fragmented state of Gaster himself, as a strange, liminal-and-nonexistant being.

I had envisioned the covers being more complex, but acrylic is not forgiving. Minimalism is far more functional. Moreover it is simply canvas over the core spiral-bound book. The lacing is durable and forms a partial closure over the pages - I find it aesthetic and protective (though I admit to simply 'eyeballing' the holepunching of the cover edges). A small wire prong and leather strip forms the closure of the book.

It is a choice: to abolish instinct or not. To live in obeisance to compulsion or not. There is no truth but that which we create ... And this fundamental simplicity is damning. Confining. Suppressing. Where do I find and synthesize what I need?

I want this no more than you do, and to remedy it is no less than to walk a path of voluminous obstacles - ones which neither sight nor philosophical sense will smooth for feet of bone. We have an answer, but our mortal frame lists with worry; obscurity to the thought's oculus and aperture of self.
(Quotes from two pages, chosen at random.)

Materials: Coilbound notebook (stone-paper), canvas, faux leather lace, metal wire, rivet, acrylic, leather dye, varnish, and a leather strip.

If I could buy this kind of stuff on Etsy I would be more than broke, but happy anyways.
