Artist's Comments

Thoughts: Doctor Robotnik, seated in his command-chair, giving a particularly impatient look to someone, or perhaps to some point distant from him. His face is meant to be set rather forward, and pushed to the side by his own force, a sort of gesture of supressed frustration, not necesarily one of rest, as might first be assumed. With his living hand already curled into a fist, his mechanical hand is nearly the same, his index and forefinger poised as if restless to point, demand, work controls, or twitch - insectoid and unpredictable. He seems to have lost a bit of weight in this sketch; a fault of mine in lack of foresight of the original basis. His stage-left hand would appear to be a bit thin, but the flatness suggests instead that it's weight is set atop his voluminous fat... Or, in this case, mildly reduced girth.

Details: A simple, quick sketch; meant to be an emotive piece, reflective of the general situation. Much of my sketchbook pages are riddled with notes in pen; it was the sketch which wandered into those limits, resulting in some text which could not be easily removed.

Materials: mechanical pencil, black ink (fineliner), blue col-erase.

Cynicide: Lack of correct porportion and perspective make the image appear rather skewed, a factor amplified by his unintended relative slimness. There are areas where I'd forgotten or neglected to add some shading depth; although his command-chair left him reclined rather steeply. In addition, his torso-cross does not flow well with his body surfaces, and the central disc and it's anchors are too prominent and jarring. Also, the angle at which I have his shoulder pauldrons/armor swept back is about 45 degrees horizontally and vertically, making this viewing angle noticeably incorrect.

Well as I said,I really like this.He has that naturally posed relax position like he is waiting for something to happen.I really like how you did the chair. It looks very bio mechanical

Why Geno, you should know as well as I that Robotnik was known as many things, among them architect and engineer... Of course his command-throne would appear nearly biomechancial: it's utterly suited to his figure, his needs, and his deceptive nature. Who knows what terrorizing functions that device could hold. It's from that chair alone that he operates and lords over nearly all of Robotropolis... Possibly even Mobius itself.

Besides, being tyrannical genius-dictator of Mobius, one certainly merits being able to have the most awesome, comfortable, and intimidating work-chair on the planet. =)

Ah, the life of a dictator. Its not all caviar and champagne, ya know. Some days, there just aren't any conquests to be had, any prisoners to be tortured and then robotocized, or any dreams of hope to shatter into pieces. Nope, there are annoyances to deal with, the hum drum of life, the realization that... there is nothing better to do at the moment then listen to the prattle of your incompetant lackeys, and idly wonder how long it would take to kill them if you were to try vivisecting them... for Science, of course.

XD Awesome pic, and especially the chair;that puppy just oozes 'seat of power' and you've captured that fact beautifully, as have you Ivo's bored/frustrated expression upon his meaty face. Kudos, as per usual ^^

Greetings once more, Ape.

Heh, yes, the way old Robotnik appeared on the page amused me as well. Looking at that picture, it makes me think I'm starting to bore him with my lack of imagination.... I'd mentioned wishing to start working on some Mobians and their surrounding concepts. If works like the one above are the result of such subconscious perspective from Robotnik, maybe it's better to be about my work with greater vivacity, lest I be at the receiving end of some tyrannical wrath. =p

His command-chair had originally given me some troubles, but it had appeared relatively easily in this sketch, much to my relief.

Thanks for the amusing spirit, Ape.
