I am the dreamer you are the dream
Personally, from a knowledge standpoint, I have difficultly accurately depicting that much fat on his figure. To wit, much of his abdominal mass is not readily visible from this angle, also due in part to the nature of his robes. Part of the clothing design is as much formal elaboracy as it is a direct effort to reduce the appearence of his (likely intimidating/diagreeable) cropulence.

I am the dreamer you are the dream
Now this is a side of Robotnik you rarely see done, him during the days when he was the "Hero of the Kingdom"... given what he's about to put said kingdom, nay, the whole planet through, the mobians might've been better off losing XD Okay, I'm liking the sight of Julian in that uniform, and the aristocratic cane is a nice touch. You can just SEE the class and corruption ooozing from every pore of his bloated body XD
And hey, mobians! Excellent! You know, always did wonder how the fuzzballs felt about having Julian lurking about the palace.. I mean look at him, even that bear is kinda small looking when compared to the hairless giant XD
I still have plenty of development left to see to with Julian's concept, but I always appreciate your views; thanks again, Geno.
Heh, yes, you must be more thoughtful and cautious, Ape. Robotnik is the ruler of the planet, and you must -always- take into consideration his pinnacle of aesthetics and his, er, 'worldly' figure. After all, he is ruler of Mobius, and has the stature to match. When in Rome....
The long process of working with Julian's standing and development within Mobian culture and society has been troublesome to me, not just because it is largely unexplored territory and that my concept within this project is rather divergent, but because the sheer complexity of his dealings therein - his capacities, tendencies, capabilities (known and unknown), and simple proximity - pose as their own obstacle. There is much to be figured in order to keep the storyline/storytelling both as logically consistent as possible, but also dramatic and interesting. A reasonable degree of such consideration has been that of appearence, and just how Julian would contend with his presence in Mobian society - although I can't draw a formal suit worth a cat's hairball, I will have to adapt to that.
... And yes, some Mobians have finally appeared in my sketchbook. One primary theme is just how different Julian is, compared to them. Mobian society, at least in Mobotropolis, is varied and rich, and for the greater part quite tolerant and welcoming of individual differences yet alone speciation; however, Julian is simply so utterly -different- and yet similar all the same, his presence is naturally unsettling.
In my concept Julian does have a few more adaptive characteristics to him, but not all of which are meant to be common knowledge. One case in point, he smirks often, as opposed to smiling... With good reason. Considering his stature and build, one of his greatest social impediments is that he is naturally imposing. Although Mobians are rather used to dealing with individuals descended from carnivorous species, they aren't afflicted with the overt and subtle characteristics which Julian possesses, and naturally his foreign nature is unsettling to many. Heck, the teeth/canines on the man would spook at least 2/3 of the Mobian population.
On the subject of acceptance, depending on what you choose to use from the various stories put forth about Mobius past, Julian might have had Nate Morgan's time among the mobians working in his favor (if you wish to delve into a bit of history by Archie, purveyor of interesting ideas and concepts but poor executors therein). Nate Morgan was a hero to the denizens of Mobotropolis thanks to the technological rennaissance that he helped engineer, and he was a public figure as the teacher and mentor to King Acorn, not to mention an advisor to Acorn's father, prior to the events that would lead him to exile himself from his newfound home. Taking that into account, the mobian populace might take to viewing Kintobor as a second Nate Morgan (it helps that Julian was his protoge way back when), and when you add to the fact that victory for mobians began to pick up when he took the reigns of the army... well, you got yourself a perfect recipe for 'insta-acceptance', or at least a speeded up process of integrations.
Just a thought, mind you.
Unfortunately my story is quite divergent in basis as compared to the Archie line. I have my varying reasons, but I share your sentiment that Archie had set up some fascinating ideas, but had poorly executed the events.
Digressing, I won't go into the nature of my story in hand, but it grants Julian a far more involved perspective - it could be argued that his effect on Mobian society was not as swift and powerful as that of Nate Morgan's, but possesses a greater degree of pervasiveness and circumstantial force. I prefer a more rational and measured apporach to his actions and rise to power, if not also the evolution of his own ideals and his systematic attaining of them in conjunction with the shifting in Mobian dynamics.
Regarding his formal titles and recognition, I am still working through various ideas relating to his capacity within Mobian society and his cooperation with the King. Julian, due to effectually being a savant, would have a very complex relationship with the King and his choices for the direction and maintainence of the Kingdom.
Perhaps that is enough detail (or generality) for now. Still, it's good to read of your suggestions Ape. The Archie material is interesting, but I have always had a strong disagreement with the sudden appearence of Overlanders. I find it weakens that Sonic universe, after a fashion. I do not denounce it entirely, but I merely choose to work with a different outline.
Thanks again, Ape.
Was it your intent to go for an almost fairytale like design of the animals? For that is the impression I am receiving from this work. I believe it is an original interpretation of SatAM series, and I look forward to more.
It is evidently clear you have some interesting ideas ricocheting within your mind.
