Study: Argon City

Description

Thoughts: This is an initial attempt at rendering the city of Argon, of the Grid.

As ever, nothing comes easy in adapting the smooth, colorful look, bold edges, or many abstract elements of Tron: Uprising to traditional media. Regardless, here is my attempt.

While Argon's wandering minor-detail abstracts trace a complex network through the city structure, the geometric harmony of it's major buildings can be surprisingly difficult to grasp and properly formulate. Being a functionally-minded person, a sense of order and purpose to Argon's appearance is far more reasonable than making mere, disconnected segments and renderings of this kind.

Never having sketched a city before, it's certainly a hand-cramping challenge. :p Especially given that these sketches are hardly the span of my palm.

Details: A set of basic studies.

Materials: Sketchbook paper, mechanical pencil, 4B graphite stick, watercolor, and correction fluid.

All I can say is that: This must have taken a long time to make! (and plan) In my panels I only have a few buildings to draw and I still spend a ton of time trying to get them right. :p They are so hard to formulate, like you said, probably simply because it's hard to link the buildings to any sort of usage like we are with our world's buildings. We've seen glimpses of apartments or Security command centers but not much else inside of those Grid-skyscrapers. (which the name skyscraper is ironic in and of itself ;p ) Great work! :D
